Supporters gather near Shinde’s house; MP son feels NCP, denounces attack on offices.

The National Executive Assembly of the Shiv Sena on June 25 passed six resolutions giving the absolute right to Maharashtra Chief Minister and Party Chairman Uddhav Thackeray to take action against the rebels to control the insurgency within the party. The meeting was convened in the wake of the uprising of Sena MLA Eknath Shinde, which has destabilized the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the state and risks the Thackerays losing control of the party.

Meanwhile, fearing violent retaliation from Sena workers, all 38 party MLAs stationed in Guwahati wrote on Saturday to the Chief Minister of Assam, the Home Secretary, and the Director-General of Police asking for police protection for their families and to require relatives. On Saturday, Vice-Chairman Narhari Zirwal’s office confirmed the issuance of disqualification to 16 rebel MLAs, asking for a response within 48 hours. But the Shinde group tried to table a no-confidence vote against Mr. Zirwal, although the Assembly is not in session. It was rejected because the message came from an unknown email address.

At a virtual press conference of Guwahati representing the rebel group, Deepak Kesarkar, MLA, said: “We have a majority with us and, as per the rule, we can sit in the Assembly as a separate group. We will not merge with another party. We have not left the Shiv Sena but are the Shiv Sena. Our decision is because Congress and the NCP weakened the party in Maharashtra.”

The political turmoil in Maharashtra was sparked by the factional war in Shiv Sena after Mr. Shinde flew with some MLAs to Surat and then to Guwahati, where he claimed to have the support of 38 MLAs from the 55 Shiv Sena lawmakers, which more than two. -third of the party’s strength in the 288-member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. It means they can either leave and form another political party or merge with another without being disqualified from the State Assembly.

Shinde would have had a better chance of becoming CM if he had stayed with Shiv Sena.

“Had the BJP kept their promise to share Maharashtra CM’s post with the Shiv Sena for 2.5 years, Uddhav Thackeray himself would have mentioned Eknath Shinde’s name as CM,” said Sena MP Sanjay Raut in his column in the party mouthpiece ‘Saamana.’

“Mr. Shinde would have had a greater chance of becoming CM if he had remained in the Sena. Those who rebelled against the Sena, such as Chhagan Bhujbal and Narayan Rane, saw their subsequent political careers hit hard. Mr. Shinde and 40 MLAs was “not a political earthquake,” Sena headquarters has endured several such earthquakes. A split in the Legislative Party does not translate into a split in the Shiv Sena,” said Mr. Raut. – Mumbai -desk

Has the Anti-Defector Act Failed?

Maharashtra is in a constitutional crisis. Many ruling Shiv Sena lawmakers who appear to have rebelled against Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s leadership have now holed up in a hotel in faraway Guwahati to stay out of reach of party leaders.
